A major cause of unsatisfactory forage crop performance is poor plant nutrition. Nitrogen deficiency is a common problem on many soils. Forage sorghum and millet are very heavy users of nitrogen especially, and when grown in favourable locations or with irrigation for high yields. Topdressing with nitrogenous fertilisers between grazing or cuts is often required to sustain high yields. There must also be an adequate supply of phosphorus, sulphur, potassium and other essential nutrients at sowing to carry the crop right through.

The rate of nutrient removal from the soil can be huge if dry matter yields are high.

For example, One tonne of dry matter of sweet sorghum will remove approximately the following amounts of nutrients:

Phosphorus 3.5 kg
Potassium 20 kg
Sulphur 2.5 kg
Calcium 3 kg
Magnesium 3 kg

Calculations using the above figures indicate that a highly productive irrigated hay crop yielding 20 t/hectare dry matter removes approximately the following:
1160kg/hectare Urea
700kg/hectare single super
800kg/hectare muriate of potash
300kg/hectare dolomite

High yielding crops obviously require high fertility soils, but the soil must also have generous moisture-holding capacity and favourable structure and texture to at least 1 metre depth. These characteristics are even more essential for maximum yields in rain-grown crops.

Paddock history, previous crop performance, nutrient budgeting and reliable soil testing can help to determine likely fertiliser needs for sustainable forage cropping.

PALATABILITY

As plants get older and taller, fibre content rises and animal intake declines. However, with sweet sorghums like Pioneer® brand Mega Sweet and Pioneer® brand SSS the sugar content reaches a peak in the older growth, so they can be efficiently used for fattening at a later stage.

Sudan grasses like SSS have finer stems and leaves and better leaf-to-stem ratio than sorghum.

Ordering Procedure 

All orders must be submitted in writing by email to orders.australia@gentechseeds.com

A minimum of 48 hours notice is required to process orders and to be dispatched with GenTech Seeds Pty Ltd preferred freight providers. 

Standard Trading Terms 

For GenTech Seeds Selling Agents and GenTech Seeds Resellers who have approved credit terms:

Seed dispatched and invoiced during: January and February 2022 March April
Payment is due: EOM May EOM April EOM May

 

Finance Charge

Interest will accrue on any overdue account. The rate will be 1.5% per month. All interest will be charged by GenTech Seeds from the end of the month the account is due on both standard trading terms and GenTech Seeds Crop Credit.

Trait Technology Fees 

Where trait technology fees are applicable, these are accounted for in conformance with the directions of the technology owner.  

Crop Credit 

GenTech Seeds may provide Crop Credit to farmer customers where the Reseller agrees to pay all invoices from GenTech Seeds prior to 240 days after end of month of invoice. The Reseller must provide the details of the farmer customers to whom they make the sales. Information must be collected and reported to GenTech Seeds with each monthly Consignment Stock Return. Crop Credit is subject to a minimum of $1,000 (inc GST) purchase. Pricing for Crop Credit is subject to change without notice. 

Freight into Store 

Eastern States (QLD, NSW, VIC, SA) – Pioneer® Brand products are supplied free into store via approved freight providers subject to availability and within reasonable time frames. If transport is requested outside of the network of GenTech Seeds approved freight providers, it will be at the Reseller’s expense. 

Tasmania – Pioneer® Brand products are supplied free into Melbourne Depots via approved freight providers subject to availability and within reasonable time frames. Freight from Melbourne into Tasmania will be at the Reseller’s expense. 

Western Australia – Pioneer® Brand products are supplied free into our Perth Dept, Broome and Kununurra via approved freight providers subject to availability and within reasonable time frames. Freight from Perth, Broome and Kununurra into store will be at the Reseller’s expense.  

Bulk Bag Orders 

240kg (net weight) packaged products are considered special order and thus no returns will be accepted. Product will not be bagged unless a firm order commitment is received. A minimum order of 5 x 240kg bags per hybrid is required. It is at the full discretion of GenTech Seeds whether product will be made available in 240kg packaging. Requests for product in 240kg bags need to be submitted to include volumes and anticipated delivery dates. The purchaser shall be deemed responsible for the products once it has been delivered to the customers store via any freight paid for by GenTech Seeds. If the freight is being onforwarded from a depot, GenTech Seeds responsibility will finish once the product is delivered to such onforwarding depot. Previously bagged/treated product will not be repackaged into 240kg bags. 

Seed Protection 

All seed treatment chemistries offered on Pioneer® Brand seed are registered in canola by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) and meet the stringent requirements and assessment of the APVMA. Professional application of Betta Strike ® Plus seed treatment, Betta Strike ® and Custom seed treatments by GenTech Seeds is in accordance with the label directions of use to allow customers to be confident with the efficacy and safety of seed protection offered on Pioneer ® Brand seed products. Seed Warranty 

A warranty is printed on the reverse side of Pioneer ® Brand seed bags. We recommend the terms are brought to the attention of all customers. The warranty is limited to Betta Strike ® Plus seed treatment, Betta Strike ® seed treatment, custom seed treatment applied by GenTech Seeds at the time of bagging. All warranties provided by GenTech Seeds shall be void and of no effect if the buyer (or anyone other than GenTech Seeds) applies any chemicals or preservatives to any Pioneer ® Brand Seed or other products.
