Canola growers and seed resellers in Western Australia’s Central Wheat Belt are assured of even better support with appointment of a new Pioneer® Seeds Territory Sales Manager for this important agricultural region.

Lisa Furey (pictured) has joined the WA team at an exciting time for Western Australia's canola industry, with new Optimum GLY herbicide tolerance hybrids being launched and available for growers in 2024.

A genuine local, having lived in WA all her life, Lisa attended Muresk Agricultural College after leaving school.

She developed an ongoing interest in agronomy as well as in identifying the weeds, plant pathogens and pest insects that growers battle every day.

“I enjoy helping farmers increase their profitability and potential to grow awesome canola,” she says.

“Of course, if we get a significant amount of rain at the right time, we also do a bit of summer forage.

“I’m lucky because all my regions fall within an area that usually receives a reliable amount of rain each year.

“However, if we get less than say 250 mm average in a growing season, there’s usually not much opportunity for forage crops.”

She says the best thing about her job as a Pioneer Seeds Territory Sales Manager is that she gets to catch up with people and talk about growing canola.

“For the past few years, I’ve been working for one of the large ag/chem companies. So, when I’m discussing how the season’s going, what’s working, what’s not working, I love getting into the finer detail of what’s best practice.”

Much like other territory sales managers, Lisa’s role involves a fair bit of road travel.

Between supporting her three active boys, and helping her husband’s rural business on weekends, Lisa leads a busy life.

“I’ll be out meeting growers and resellers all over the Central Wheat Belt at least three days a week.”

Pioneer Seeds WA Regional Sales Manager Erinn McCartney says Lisa’s background in agriculture and strong local connection will make a welcome contribution to an expanding team of Pioneer Seeds’ specialists in WA servicing resellers and growers.

“In Western Australia, Pioneer Seeds now supports growers and resellers with one regional manager, three territory sales managers, three farm services consultants and a technical service manager, bringing the total to eight full-time field service staff.

“With the launch of the new Optimum GLY herbicide tolerant trait canola we’re moving towards a big start to 2024.

“Lisa already knows the central wheat belt well, which will help us service the strong demand we’re experiencing for hybrid canola across the region.

“We’re delighted to welcome her to the Pioneer team.”
